Liturgical Ministries
Rich liturgical celebrations are possible through the prayerful preparation and dedication of many volunteers. From the décor of the worship space, to the person who sings the Psalm, there are hundreds of details that require the work of many hands. If you are interested in learning more about what goes into liturgy, please contact the Parish Office so we can direct you to the right coordinator, 204-488-4467.
Ministry of the Word (Readers)
Ministers of the Word of play an integral role in the celebration of the Mass through the proclaiming of the “Word of the Lord”. The goal of the reader is to proclaim the Word in a way that is effectively received by the listener.
Each reader prepares and practices in advance to deepen his or her understanding of the message of the readings. Ministers of the Word may be asked to read once every six to eight weeks, with one or two readers required for each Mass.
Altar Servers Ministry
Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon in all aspects of the Liturgical celebration, enhancing the experience of the entire worship community in the prayerful celebration of the Eucharist. Altar servers can begin ministry in Grade 6, and are required to attend special training sessions and preparation sessions for special Liturgies.
Music Ministry
St John Brebeuf has three music choirs that serve our parish community. The purpose and goal of the music ministry is to help enrich the congregation's worship during the Mass through hymns and songs. The Music Ministry invites new singers and instrumentalists to join us at Lord’s Day Masses on Saturday evening at 5 pm and Sunday morning at 10 am. We rehearse 60 minutes before Mass and hold practices a few times a month to learn new songs. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to join.
Tehillah: Saturday 5 pm, about 1-2 times per month.
Una Voce: Every Sunday at 10 am
Youth Choir: Last Sunday of the month at 10am.
AV Ministry
The AV System Minister enables the congregation to participate more fully in the liturgy through the projection of lyrics, text, and audiovisual presentations. This ministry works closely in conjunction with the music ministry. Training is provided.
Hospitality Ministry
Hospitality Ministers are often the first and the last people you see in the Church; greeting and welcoming people into the church, whether they are regulars, visitors or new members of the church, assisting with seating and directions, ensuring that there is a family to help bring up the offerings, taking the collection, and handing out bulletins at the end of Mass. After initial training, no practice or pre-mass preparation is required; just a commitment to serve on a rotational basis at weekend Masses.
Altar Linens Ministry
The Altar Linens Ministry maintains the sanctity and reverence of the altar through laundering of linens used during Liturgies. Volunteers wash and press the linens and towels used at the altar for Masses
Coffee & Donuts Ministry: Sunday Morning
Coffee Hospitality Ministers are instrumental in building community; providing established and new parishioners with a weekly opportunity for coffee, donuts and fellowship following Sunday 10am Mass. Volunteers prepare coffee and set it out with donuts, juice and water at the end of Mass, then orchestrate clean-up. No training or meetings are required.
Coffee Hospitality Ministry: Funerals
Coffee Hospitality Ministers for parish funerals provide an important service for grieving families following funeral liturgies. Volunteers prepare the parish hall, set out the catered luncheon, prepare coffee and beverages, and meet the needs of the guests on behalf of the family. No training is required; only a willingness to serve an availability basis. Help with coordination would also be welcomed.
